Bizhan and Manizheh was composed from 1974 to 1975 based on the great Persian epic Shahnameh by Ferdowsi. Selected numbers of this work was premiered by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Christian David. In another opportunity some other numbers were played and recorded by Nurnberg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of A. Rahbari (tracks nos. 8, 9 and 11) - together with other symphonic works by the contemporary Persian composers.
It is to be noted that the musical expression in this work has nothing to do with the main currents of  Persian modern music. The plot takes place in ancient or even legendary times and I felt that modern is not a proper musical language to represent its atmosphere, Nevertheless I have tried to create a unique orchestral sonority - supposed to be of Persian character - which from time to time shows itself in the score. ...
